Do I understand correctly that I'm supposed to take the average of the "orange" and "green" readings on the chart to get the actual pH? And what is the significance of the difference in the average when I'm testing urine or saliva, please?

Hello, Urine will usually be more acidic than saliva because more acids are expelled through urine than saliva. Urine is more accurate than saliva because saliva has more variables that can affect the reading. Urine pH can range from 4.5 to 8.5, but the ideal pH range is 6.75-7.25. It is best to test the second urine of the day. The first urine of the day is the most acidic and gives a metabolic reading, meaning it will tell you how ell your body is eliminating acids. The second urine is the best time to test because it gives a better indication of overall body pH. Saliva will usually be less acidic then urine because more acids are expelled through urine than saliva. Saliva is less accurate than urine because saliva has more variables that can affect the reading. Saliva pH can range from 5.5 to 7.5, but the ideal pH range is 6.75-7.25. Match the strip to the color chart on the bottle within 15 seconds. Color matching will be most accurate using natural light. If your not getting an exact match with the color chart, this means you are testing in between ranges or your are testing at a more inaccurate time. In this case, use the lower pH number. (Example: The top color is matching between 5.75 and 6.0. You would then use 5.75 as your reading for the top color pad.) Take the average of the top color and bottom color readings by adding the two numbers together and divide that total by two. We recommend testing 3 times per day and average the 3 readings for that day. This will give you the most accurate pH reading for that day as your pH levels will fluctuate throughout the day. Customers should not base their pH results on just one testing. We also recommend tracking your pH readings for 1-3 weeks to see how your pH changes. Thanks, pHion Customer Service

My reading was visibly much brighter than the 4.5 color. Does that mean that the ph level is lower than 4.5?

You state that the range scale is 4.5 - 9.0, but what are the discernible increments? Do the strips differentiate every o.25 change in ph?

Hello, The dual pad was created so that it is easier to see what color it matches up with. The two squares use two different pH reagents. The bottom reagent is more sensitive to higher pH ranges (7.0-9.00) and the top reagent is more sensitive to lower pH ranges (4.5-6.75). This combination gives you an ideal reading of your pH level. Thanks, pHion Customer Support

How do I accurately read the strip? The bottom green box matches the green boxes on the enclosed color chart, but the top peach colored box never corresponds with the top peach box coupled with my green box. Hope this makes sense. Is: My green box can be in the 6.5 range, but the top peach box is in the 4.5 range.

Your body keeps your blood pH in a very narrow range regardless of what you eat or drink. If it didn't, you'd die. This is not opinion but medical fact. Since that's the case, using these strips gets you 2 simple readings and that's all: one at the 'inlet', one at the 'outlet', nothing more. Interesting information, but not indicative of the pH of the body or the blood. Isn't that true?

Hello, The Diagnostic Test Strips are used to test the pH level's in your body by using urine or saliva. This is not the same as a person's blood pH. When testing with pH test strips, the reading is for the pH level of the tissues in the body, not the pH level of the blood. Thanks, pHion Customer Support.

Someone asked about testing their alkaline water. Your answer was that the strips are not designed to test water. I don't get that at all: how does the test strip know the difference between dipping into small cup of urine and a small cup of water? Isn't pH, is pH, is pH?
